The agent of Korean international Cho Jae-Jin has recently claimed plenty of interest in his client from top flight clubs in England – apparently he was set for a move to Newcastle last week, but this fell through, now a move to Pompey has ‘allegedly’ been ‘agreed in principle’…

A ‘mystery unknown source’ has told Korean Daily Sports Chosun that the 26 year old free agent – having come to the end of his contract with Japanese club Shimizu S-Pulse – will arrive at the club this weekend to finalise his move: ‘Portsmouth and Cho Jae-Jin’s management team have agreed the transfer in principle and Cho’s agent is talking to the club to finalise the details.

‘Cho will arrive in England this weekend to talk with Portsmouth’.

Interest in the striker has apparently grown over the past 6 months or so with FC Utrecht, Ajax and West Ham among many European clubs said to have shown an interest.

He has a strike rate of almost 1 in 2 in Japan, which is not bad, but with all due to respect to the football in that country I would not expect the standard to be as high as it is in Europe, he has scored 8 in 29 – or 10 in 39, depending on where you read this information – at international level.

The commercial benefits of such a deal could also work in Pompey’s favour?
