The Pompey Site has now officially confirmed that Steve Finnan has signed for Pompey, the second officially confirmed arrival of the day – although unofficially we knew this!
The Republic of Ireland international had ‘apparently’ agreed to a 1-year contract – with the option of another – a few days ago, with sky sports ‘understanding’ this was done after passing a medical. With this now confirmed Finnan, who is with the squad in Portugal for the games against Vitoria SC and Benfica, is set for his Pompey bow.
Paul Hart has said: ‘it whetted my appetite to think that we could get a player of Steve’s calibre here.
‘Both Steve and Aaron (Mokoena) have got plenty of experience and they’re both very good players.’
So long as the 33-year-old can remain injury free, I am sure that he will prove a very good – and very welcome – addition to our squad and is almost certain to be our first choice right back this season.
