Aaron Mokoena claimed, what, some 2-months ago or more that he had signed for Pompey – we waited, and waited and waited but were never given anything official, either confirming or denying these ‘reports’.

His agent made noises every now and again, but still we never heard anything from the club.

Upon Paul Hart’s arrival, still nothing, but on Monday with something he told The News he seemed to confirm his arrival, saying that we had sorted out the visa problems that were holding up things and was now part of our side. Still, nothing official though!

But now, finally it has been officially confirmed on The Pompey Site that the South African international has indeed joined Pompey on a Bosman after his contract with Blackburn expired, signing a 3-year contract.

Hart said: ‘He’s really looking forward to coming here and we’re looking forward to seeing him play.

‘I watched him play for South Africa in the Confederations Cup over the summer and he did great.

‘Aaron’s a strong player who bites in the tackle and he’s the sort of character we’re going to need in the coming months.

‘He can play in defence or in midfield but I mostly see him as a midfielder. We’ve done extremely well to get him here. I’m really pleased that he’s joined.’

Like it or not, big enough name or not, the simple fact is that he has signed for us – if he gives us 100%, as it is believed he will, then that is good enough for me, getting 100% from those that pull on the blue shirt is all I ask!

Now we just wait and see where ‘The Axe’, as he was called at Blackburn, will play? Will he be a central defender, or another defensive minded midfielder, it does appear the latter though…

All that remains to be said is… Chixy, how is it the Mokoena song goes again?
