Pompey beat Chelsea? Why not!

The ‘magic of the cup’ does funny things eh!

Portsmouth Football Club can testify to this, both in a positive – the most positive of all – and a negative light down the years…

Going to Stamford Bridge to face Chelski on Sunday we have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain. If we can force a replay then we have another payday. If we can pull off the almost unthinkable, for many, and win we have another round – at least.

That would mean more cash in the coffers. This game will net us some £500,000 alone apparently?

Back along, in the forum, I said that I would admit that it was ‘probably’ 70:30 in favour of Chelski winning, but I know that I am going to the game with the ‘hope’, at least, that we can beat them.

At the end of the day if I wanted to support a side that won all the time I would support someone else – not that I would want to! – but I go into virtually every game pretty much always with this ‘belief’, more often than not – maybe foolishly! – genuine belief that we can win.

So, Chelski will be no different for me…

If we can get through to half time level, at least, and then put some pressure on in the 2nd half, and most importantly take chances we get, you never know!

Do not get me wrong it would be foolish to go in thinking we will win, but why bother playing – or even travelling to the game – if defeat is accepted before a ball is even kicked!?

I say that even though, for me in many ways, winning or losing is not what motivates me into going to watch Pompey but of course I want us to win every game and this game is no different.

I, hand on heart though, really do not think we will have a better chance of beating Chelski you know! Play to our best, get a bit of luck and hope that Chelski have an off day, dare I even risk saying continue to play as they have recently, and we could get a result. A draw or better still cause a real upset…

People will say ‘Palace beat Manyoo’ this season, and of course they did. My slight argument in response to that would be that it was a slightly weaker Manyoo side that lost to Palace in the league cup than the Chelski one that I suspect we will face but I know what is meant when people make that comparison.

When it comes to ‘upsets’ anything can happen, like I say especially in the cup!

I have only ever made one visit to Old Trafford and we won that day, this will be my first to Stamford Bridge – I always REFUSED to pay the £40-£50 for a ticket in the past, £30 is not ‘bad’ in the modern era – so hopefully I can be 1/1 their too come Sunday evening…

Going back to an earlier point if we can keep it tight, go into the half time break level maybe even ahead or at least within touching distance, then with our almost now ‘traditional’ 2nd half improvement this could help us cause a real upset?

Although of course write off Chelski at your peril but I say DO NOT discount our chances here guys!

Even in our ‘prime’ I am not convinced, and maybe do not think, that we would have ever gone to Stamford Bridge with a ‘better chance’ of getting something than we do this weekend…
