…and at the end of the day why should Gary O’Neil have any regrets about leaving Pompey? When all is said and done we sold him – he was not actively looking for a move away was he!

O’Neil was reflecting on Pompey being in the FA cup final and his first season with Boro when telling the Boro Site: ‘obviously I still have a lot of friends down there and I want them top go on and win the cup, but for me it was good to get a change and get some new surroundings.

‘I’ve enjoyed my first season.

‘We’re not as far up the league as we would have liked, but we have had a couple of decent spells and if we can make those spells longer next year we will get higher up the league’.

I dare say that in all honesty in an ideal world he would have rather stayed here but as said he should not have any regrets as he was sold, the fella did not want to leave but once the club accepted the offer – as they did – their was no turning back.

My own thinking is that out of all the players to go he is the one that we have missed the most but all parties have now moved on…
