One for the next generation confirmed then!

Those that are long-term readers and/or contributors to Vital Pompey will know that my little nephew, Reece or littlespoon/spoon as we call him, means the absolute world to me – I make no secret of this fact.

Incredibly, or should it be frighteningly, he will turn 2 in September!

His development has been fantastic though, he has been walking and running around for ages, is, and has been for some time, amazingly intelligent – clearly uncle Rug has been an influence on him! – and his speech coming on a treat, he listens, learns – retaining this knowledge – and repeats really well, sometimes words you do not want him repeating…

Clearly from the image above – after getting him Pompey baby gear as a nipper I soon advanced this to Pompey kit, which I got him last September for his birthday – I, and my brother, are doing all we can to ensure he is a future Pompey fan, which I think has now been confirmed!

He knows the crest, and when you point to it he says ‘Play up Pompey!’

Talking to him on the phone yesterday morning I was hearing him saying ‘Play up Pompey’, although sometimes, and I guess he is bound to get confused too, would say ‘Hello Pompey!’ Other times when my brother was pointing to the crest he would just say ‘Pompey’ – so he knows who we are when the moon and star is shown to him.

So, the early signs are good, I think we have worked well and spoon is going to be one of our future generation. As tempting as it is to get him to a game sooner rather than later I will hang fire a bit, although if he carries on developing like he is I would think that sometime in the next 15-24-months would be fine, for him not only to enjoy it but take it all in and appreciate it…

Here is to the next generation of Pompey fans, lets make sure we keep them interested – hopefully costs will decrease too, as that will do little to help otherwise!

PLAY UP POMPEY!
