31/7/1949: Brian Turner

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Brian Turner – the Pompey player from the Blues’ past born on this day.

Turner was before my time and I cannot claim to know too much about him aside from the same.

Played – 1
Won – 0

Well, it’s very rare to see a competitive game played in July but Pompey have managed that and remain unbeaten, albeit from only one game.

Not that I can claim the 1976 meeting at Oxford.

What are your memories of Turner from his Pompey days? Also have you taken in the game previously played today – if so what are the memories from it too?

  • Didn’t go to Oxford for the Kent Cup game although did watch the home games with Watford and Luton.

Turner played just four games for Pompey – all away from home – while on loan from Chelsea. Went to three of those games including wins at Oxford and Bolton.

  • I went to some Kent Cup games as well but not this one….never saw Turner, he was 69, my first game was 71….as Eastney Dave said all 4 games away, 2 wins & 1 appearances at Fratton, which was a shame
