13/7/1936: Ray Crawford
Happy birthday to Jim Cairney and Ray Crawford – the Pompey players from the Blues’ past born on this day.
Both Cairney – who I cannot say I know anything about – and Crawford were before my time watching football let alone Pompey so I didn’t see either of them play. I would suspect some did though, certainly Crawford anyway.
Crawford is a person I know well enough from his commentary on football his regular contributions to the News and his presence if football full stop but never saw him as Crawford the footballer.
