Another feature, again courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, sees us look at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

10/11/1959: Billy Gilbert
10/11/1964: Guy Whittingham
10/11/1973: Patrick Berger

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Billy Gilbert, Guy Whittingham and Patrick Berger – the Pompey players from the Blues’ past born on this day.

Gilbert is a player I recall well enough but didn’t get to see much of him play for Pompey.

However, one of our greatest ever goalscorers was Whittingham, I saw more of him from his return in the late 90s really but enjoyed all his time with us, just a shame when he became manager as it didn’t work out.

Berger was perhaps another of those who had his prime days with other clubs before us, with him better recalled for them, but we had a good spell from him with that left foot of his as good for us as it had ever been… then again I might show bias.

Now onto the games previously played.

Played – 13
Won – 3
Drawn – 5
Lost – 5

Only the one again for me today; and one I try to forget. Bury at Gigg Lane in 2012, when we lost, was such a poor afternoon it put me off away games after that with this the last of my regular away jaunts.

Norwich at Fratton Park in 1998 was a rearranged game, I had travelled up for the original game earlier in the season but this got rained off around 1.30pm… just when the South West travelling party had arrived too.

What are your memories of Gilbert, Whittingham and/or Berger from their Pompey days? Also have you taken in any of the games previously played today – if so what are the memories from them too?

PLAY UP POMPEY
