On the Verge of Greatness

It seems that wellyit has a dream, but can this dream become a reality?

Picture the scene, May Day on the sunny South Coast and Avram Grant and the players are carried off the pitch after the club’s defeat of Wolves secures Premier League status for another year.

After lurching from one financial crisis to another, the club finish the season in more debt, but still alive thanks to short term loans from some very dubious sources at exorbitant interest rates.

The club’s future is still in doubt, but that is forgotten in the euphoria of the Greatest Escape ever. Before May wins over Fulham, Stoke, Burnley, Birmingham, Hull, Blackburn, Wigan and Bolton had seen Pompey slowly climb the table after looking doomed in January.

All this may seem very unlikely, particularly on the financial side, but we are still in the game and a win tonight at Fulham will let us think about the football for a change. It will give us something to build on and could be the start of stopping someone building on us.
