I know this came about yesterday, but I have been trying to find out more before saying anything…
This is a strange one guys?
It has been pretty ‘low key’ really, which is surprising considering the potential importance – and ‘reports’ have been slightly conflicting on this, depending on what side of Hampshire this is being written about in the media! Surprise, surprise eh.
I am surprised that The News decided to run this in the ‘news section’ as opposed to the ‘Pompey pages section’, where you would have thought it more relevant, and of course of importance to Pompey fans, right?
Anyway, on Wednesday lunchtime an article was being run online by The News saying that WHATEVER happens at the CVA meeting next week we WILL NOT be docked points again next season.

‘Apparently’ we cannot be punished twice, in back-to-back seasons, with a points penalties, even if we fail to gain the CVA – this punishment was dished out last season so we will not be hit with another points penalty under the rules, by all accounts?
They, The News, have that infamous ‘source’ in the know from the football league that told them: ‘the suggestion we will deduct points from Portsmouth if they do not get a CVA in place before next season is categorically not true.
‘The club has already faced a points deduction last season for going in to administration – we can’t punish them twice for the same offence.’
Had we been in admin from the start of last season it appears this would have been in more ‘trouble’, so if we are still in admin at the start of the season after next that is when further action ‘could’ be taken it seems?
This ‘source’ added: ‘our rules state we will not allow a club to begin two consecutive seasons in administration. If Portsmouth are still in administration this time next year we can say to them that they are not allowed to play in the Football League. But that is entirely at the discretion of the League’s board.
‘It is also not a question of when a club comes out of administration but how. Our rules stipulate that a CVA must be in place.
‘If they exit administration but it is without a CVA, our board would meet to discuss the possibility of letting them carry on in the Football League and accept a points deduction, as long as they can show how they will repay their creditors.’
When I tried to find this article yesterday lunchtime, I could not – granted I did not search and search and search as I often do, but I really could not find it. Although I was later told by someone at The News that is had been online all day in the news section, yet was told by a friend, who had seen it when it appeared and looked for it again, that it had been removed for a couple of hours at least, and was even told that was the case?
I have contacted someone at the club for clarification on this situation, it would appear that mixed reports of this have been heard – so, at this point, I cannot say that I know that this is 100% accurate, although it does seem a lot more positive.
So, lets say for one moment that this is categorically the case. In which case I am amazed, among all the talk of points penalties for next season that this has not come to light before! Not that I would now be happy for us to go into the CVA meeting and have the proposal rejected because ‘we are no longer in danger’…
That is FAR from the case, without this CVA, even without a points penalty next season, we would still face a mighty battle for the season, and indeed our long-term future, as if it would not be tough enough as it was even if the CVA is granted.
All in all though lets take some positive from what ‘could’ potentially be a decent bit of news as it would at least give us some hope of avoiding back-to-back relegations, which we would have had no chance of had we gone into next season on a minus points start!
