Matty Taylor should have been in

Steve McClaren should have rewarded Matty Taylor with an England call up for the Germany game! Not my vote, yours – although these findings from Maniak101’s poll are thoughts that I shared.

Taylor has seemingly been on the fringes of an England international call up for sometime, but although there were numerous injuries for England last week he still could not quite force his way in, but this might have had something to do with the lack of matches he had played for Pompey at the time as much as anything.

My thinking – from as long ago as our championship winning season – has been that he would play for England at some point. Injuries and loss of form saw him lose his way, but he has returned, particularly over the past 12 months or so with not only a real high level of performance, but also a level of consistency, something that he might have been lacking before.

Yep, Taylor will play for England, of that there is no doubt, but it is beginning to look increasingly more like this could happen with him no longer a Pompey player as a move away – as much as I would not want it – is highly probably this week, in my opinion anyway.

What the poll asked – Should McClaren have brought in Matty Taylor instead of Shorey for the recent game against Germany?

How you voted – Yes 76%, No 12%, Not sure if he’s up to it 12%

Current Poll – Pompey saw off Leeds last night, maybe not convincingly, but we got the job done, so that is all that matters.

Now that we have overcome the potential ‘banana skin’ the focus can shift to our next opponents, but do we want it easy, or tough, that is what Chix wants to know with this – ‘we beat Leeds, who do we fancy in the next round?’ Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.
