Lowe’s Blues contract extended

Jamal Lowe will be very much part of the long-term future at Pompey – even if his former Hampton & Richmond teammate Nicke Kabamba isn’t? – as he’s signed a new deal.

An extension will take Lowe, 23, through until 2020 – there’s also an option held by the Blues to add a further year.

Lowe’s proven he was more than good enough in League Two and has continued to show he can cut it in League One too, despite the odd lapse here and there. Kenny Jackett has been impressed by his development and as the boss is himself targeting a place in the Championship he is pleased to know the forward feels he can get to that level with us.

Jackett told portsmouthfc.co.uk: ‘We’re really pleased that Jamal has committed his future to Pompey. This is a club that wants to be attacking the Championship in the next few years and he has expressed a desire to be a part of that. Jamal has made positive steps since coming out of the non-league game with his energy, attitude and quality.’

As said, there’s been the odd lapse from Lowe and a little rawness at times but I’ve been impressed by him since he came to the South Coast a year ago, so I’m more than happy to have his long-term future secured.
