Another feature, again courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, sees us look at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

12/1/1962: Noel Blake
12/1/1969: Robert Prosinecki
12/1/1974: Ivica Mornar

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Noel Blake, Robert Prosinecki and Ivica Mornar – the Pompey players from the Blues’ past born on this day.

I know of Blake well but he was a player at Pompey before my time. Prosinecki, well what can you say. He is still one of the greatest – despite being out of shape and past his very best when with the Blues – footballers I’ve ever seen.

Didn’t really see much of Mornar, who didn’t really do much with Pompey though all things considered, did he?

Now onto the games previously played.

Played – 14
Won – 5
Drawn – 5
Lost – 4

Not too many game played recently but I can claim the most recent at Coventry in 2010 when we won that dramatic FA Cup replay at the Ricoh Arena.

What are your memories of Blake, Prosinecki and/or Mornar from their Pompey days? Also have you taken in any of the games previously played today – if so what are the memories from them too?

  • Some great birthdays. The outstanding RP, a real pleasure to have seen him play, even at the end of his career. Shame it was in a struggling side.
Noel Blake was a giant at the back & waqs part of the successful mid 90s team under Bally.
Ivan gave his all even if at times a headless chicken as we found our feet in the prem 14-15 years ago.
There for the games in 1980 & 1991.

  • 91,80&74…& 10 on the TV…Nothing much to say about the games, mainly the 1 the on tv,which we won in ET…so no wins for me on this date, hate that!! Saw all 3 birthdays play & score…Prosinecki multi-talented, Blakey a rock & in the hall of fame & I saw Mornar score at White Hart Lane

  • Games from 2010. Met Mornar in a Chinese restaurant in Southsea!! He was having a meal with his agent.
