Well the News believes Pompey are about to attempt to bring in Wolfsburg’s Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko. He will be a familiar name to Pompey fans as he scored the first goal in the UEFA Cup clash last month and generally cause the back line countless problems.

Dzeko, who is only twenty two has an impressive goal scoring record scoring six goals in 13 matches for his country and five times in 15 games for Wolfsburg this season. He is thought to be valued at around £5million.

The Real thing?

Meanwhile the Daily Mirror and others believe that Real Madrid’s Javier Saviola will be Tony Adam’s chosen replacement for the dearly departed Jermain Defoe. Reports are that Executive Chairman, Peter Storrie, is in Spain attempting to capture reinforcements and Pompey certainly have contacts with Real after the sale of Lassana Diarra recently.

Other Spanish based targets are believed to be Edu and Manuel Fernandes, who both play for cash strapped Valencia.

Another new name being thrown up this morning by Sky Sports is that of Werder Bremen striker Boubacar Sanogo. The Ivory Coast international is said to be keen to move after making only one start this season and feels he has not been given a chance by manager Klaus Alofs since returning from the African Cup of Nations.

Setanta also believe that Bolton boss Gary Megson has decided aginst furthering his interest in Joey Barton after having his initial offer rejected.

On the departure front many sources report that Hermann Hreidarsson is on the verge of joining Championship side Reading

Tony`s message to Niko

The News are reporting that manager Tony Adams is expecting Niko Kranjcar to up the level of his performances and increase his goal tally. Niko, of course missed the start of the season after being injured playing for his natïve Croatia but to date has only scored once this season. He is discussing the terms with the club of a contract extension.

Adams said ‘I want to stretch my players, always push them. I think he (Kranjcar) is someone who needs that. He is a great footballer and needs to keep delivering.’
