Pompey Malta on the latest ‘speculation’ that is ‘linking’ Younes Kaboul with Citeh.

According to several sources this morning, it seems that Manchester City will be tempting to sign Younes Kaboul.

The fee being mentioned is that of £8m, a fee which is fair. On the other hand, no fee is good enough to sell probably our best performer this season, but knowing Pompey, this could happen very shortly.

As always, web articles can be misleading or just lazy journalism, but this one struck me in the face.

Others who were mentioned are Belhadj, James (nothing new) and Dindane. If I am not mistaken, the latter is not even a Pompey player. So hoe on earth can we sell him? Correct me if I am wrong!

What do you think about this?

I hope, and I really hope that there is nothing serious in this £8m bid for Kaboul. If this deal had to go through, we will be totally screwed.

  • Believe me if Pompey do get an offer for Younes then they will cash in, no doubt. I reckon they would go for anything around £3M or above given the current financial situation.

  • Pompey needs £8 to lift the transfer ban. It is said that Man City will pay us before they officially get Kaboul. It seems to me that this is going to happen. It sums up nicely for our financially sick club, doesn’t it?

  • as said in the forum: i was told the other day that kaboul was being ‘touted around’ a la many a name of the past that we wanted to sell – ‘maybe’, not that i wanted to believe that, it was true?

tbh i would not be surprised in the least – we have seen over and over that we are quite happy to cash-in on players, well lets be honest it is pretty clear that financially we have to, despite the £80m-£100m worth of talent sold over the past 18-months or so.
not only would the ‘board’ like to take this money to, HOPEFULLY at least, pay off things that need paying off – not just line someone’s pockets – it would reduce his high wages from the bill…

i would love to keep younes, altho i would be surprised if he was still with us by mid january let alone the end of it…

  • But does it make sense blue? Our priority is to remain in this division. It is always a risk to let go the best player in order to be able to buy someone else. Who is going to have the qualities Kaboul has? There are out there, for sure, but they cost fortunes. Kaboul is a leader, a very good defender and a goal scorer!

  • i do not think that ANYONE should be under the ‘illusion’ that we we be ‘buying’ anyone to replace him – we will, at best, bring in that kid from benfica on loan, if we do not soldier on with what we have…

  • Jesus! Can’t take this anymore. When we find a talent, we let go. I have no probelm in cashing on Belhadj or James, but we simply can’t strip off the defence that way!

  • Malta we have ‘asset stripped’ for the passed 18-months, as we had to, as much as none of us want to see this happen – the ‘limited’ assets we have left will be stripped away next month i suspect…

  • Malta, I would expect to see Younes, James, Belhadj, Utaka and Williamson leave in Jan. In addition Nugent will not be back.

  • ild imagine boateng would have a few takers. hard to think that selling your best players helps to keep you in the premiership…we go down and we will crash all the way to the bottom, its a very big risk. selling younes to city for anything less than £15mill isnt worth it, its money bags city!!

  • Happy bloody xmas indeed Paul…and an even crappier January i suspect! more leaving and the ANC and no money to bring in players….Bah Bloody humbug!!

  • What a load of tosh. Younes has been fantastic for us, but hes not yet a top four defender. They’ve been shaky at the back, they don’t need another CB who is still learning his trade.

  • Months and months of promises and bull***** and we seem to have made no progress. I’ll wait to see what Santa brings tomorrow, and after that what New Year resolutions are made. HAPPY XMAS to all on this site.

  • Ohh yes, January will be a possible fire sale, let’s hope they don’t the ground & leave us homeless!!!

  • kaboul goes we are finished. cannot believe grant took the job with the restraints were are under, i would have run a mile and i love the club

  • The same (actually only source) article that says Kaboul is on is way also states we oew Lens money for buying Dindane and are also gonna sell him … It’s utter ********* why do you guys continually fall for it .. Kaboul’s agent stated categorically on December 8th that Younes has no intention of talking to another club … Wporry about it IF it happens .. as for James and Belhadj … well they can go if they want ..
