The Pompey squad have landed in America, and with them were a couple new faces – one a very familiar face, the other ‘probably’ a name known by most?

Stephen Jordan and Jamie Ashdown were among the squad, travelling as ‘trialists’.

I was ‘tipped off’ yesterday afternoon about a couple of players – and I posted in the forum – including Ashdown, going with the squad, and although the second name was an ex-Burnley player, Jordan, it was not the name that I was given. That was Caldwell, which is turns out it was not…

Jordan is a player that I do remember as a youngster with Citeh, he seemed to have a good future ahead of him but then suddenly disappeared and ended up with Burnley – I think he has had some injuries but he is a decent full back, and at 28, fitness permitting, still has something to offer, assuming we would be able to sign him?

Our embargo needs to be lifted remember to register new players – we ‘should’ know this by the end of the week. So, if HMRC or anyone else, does not appeal the CVA then we really can start moving forward again…

The return, albeit in a ‘trial basis’ of Ashdown seems to cast major doubts over David James’ future.

I know he cannot sign a contract until the above mentioned issues are ironed out, but the fact that we ‘could’ be looking at Ashdown to return does ‘suggest’ the strongest hint yet that we are not expecting James to stay on.

Put it this way as would Ashdown really even contemplate a return to Fratton if he knew this would be primarily as the no.2 again – and a no.2 on reduced wages at that…

Steve Cotterill has made it clear that he would like some indication from Jamo as to what he is thinking of doing – whilst, once again, nothing can be committed fully yet if he does want to stay then it is easy to say ‘I want to stay if I can’, by saying nothing it tends to suggest otherwise.

Cotterill also said that the club would have to start ‘making their own decision’ if no indication was forthcoming, the Ashdown move tends to suggest this thinking process has stepped up a notch…
