David James was one of a few names left out of Fabio Capello’s England squad to face Holland this week, although this is probably understandable in many ways.

From Vital England:

Pompey keeper David James is one of the most high profile names missing from the squad but he is only just back from a shoulder operation, although The BBC says ‘first-choice goalkeeper David James was left out due to a knee injury,’ news of a knee injury is news to me, but there you go!

Either way I do not think his omission from this squad, after injury, is a surprise and I would still expect him to return for the world cup qualifiers next month, at least to the squad even if he did not regain the no.1 spot.

Man United’s Ben Foster is expected to have the chance to shine, although West Ham’s Rob Green and Blackburn’s Paul Robinson are also included.
