So then Peter Crouch, or at least his agent, confirms that he wants to stay with Pompey and will be here next season.

He is joined by The Herminator committing the next year, at least, of his career to the club.

We might have lost Glen Johnson, but that was always likely, but with these two committing, and within such a short space of each other, would it be too presumptuous to think that ‘maybe’ something is brewing?

Have both been given the reassurances they needed?

Do we sense news maybe breaking soon – or is this just wishful thinking and these actions have happened as they were always likely anyway, hmmm…

==========

Well, I wrote these thoughts last night but was keeping them for today, and there have been more developments overnight…

This seems even closer now with arabianbusiness.com running a Portsmouth deal ‘will be done’ by July 11 article today in which it is said that an AGM will be held on that date ‘at the Union Jack Club in London’s Waterloo’ with it also ‘said’ by ‘sources’ that ‘the deal will be officially done shortly before the meeting.’

With this arabiabusiness.com source also saying: ‘he will be in London for the few days before then finalising things, and so it makes sense to go to this event and meet the fans.

‘He wants to speak directly with supporters as much as possible. There will be something similar organized in Portsmouth for fans to hear from him directly, probably around that time as well.’

It was also said that monthly meetings will continue to take place to ensure Pompey does not become ‘too detached from the fans’ as happens with other clubs with it being ‘his view is that the fans know more about the club than anyone else, so he wants to have a constant dialogue with them.’

We are getting there though as apparently ‘the key things, issues that could hold this up, have now been sorted’ but ‘there’s a lot of paper work to get through’ however ‘the focus behind the scenes is now very much on how to take the club forward both on and off the pitch’ now.

So, we are hopefully getting ever closer!
