Hughes pivotal to transfers?/Pompey going Greek?

Withstanding the fact that we actually have to agree fees, which might not be cut and dried by any means the destination of Mark Hughes could play a major factor is some of our possible summer transfers…

He is being strongly linked with both the Chelski and Citeh managerial vacancies so should he take either then moves for players such as Shaun Wright-Phillips, Wayne Bridge and Richard Dunne could be put in the balance?

Should he take the Chelski job Wright-Phillips could come into his plans although I would suspect he would be more inclined to try and tempt David Bentley to follow him from Blackburn being a likely scenario? The suggestion is that should he go to Citeh that Dunne might have a change of heart about leaving the club so a move to Pompey, which is believed to be ‘very close’ would be shelved…

As if transfers were not complicated enough without throwing in other factors too!

Reports today are ‘linking’ a fresh name with Pompey, this name being Marcelo Mattos from Greek club Panathinaikos.

No need to fear though, although he would be coming from a Greek club he would not be another in the mould of Skopelitis or Chalkias as he is a Brazilian, and former teammate of Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano from their time at Corinthians.

He only signed for the club last summer but the reports are that he ‘has a release clause of ?7million euros – £5.9million – which Pompey are have matched’. The fact that they are without a manager ‘complicates’ the issue, but not enough to prevent such a move happening – apparently…

To be honest I know absolutely nothing about Mattos apart from what I have read with the reports linking him to us, and what I have already shared along with these facts that he is a 24 year old midfielder!
