Heartbreak for Hughesy

All in all there is little room for sentiment in football these days, well basically in the majority of all walks of life, but one of those that deserved some involvement in the cup final squad was surely Richard Hughes.

Yep, I know Hughesy is far from being the best footballer that this club has seen, let along football in general, but few give as much as the Scot does – so for him to be faced with the heartbreak of missing another cup final is cruel…

In all honesty he ‘probably’, if the majority of options available were available, would not have made the starting 11 to face Chelski, although a place in the 18-man squad would have been nailed on, right?

Yet, sadly, this looks like it will be taken away from him due to a hamstring injury picked up at the weekend.

As said the guy is far from being the best footballer around, yet he knows what his strengths are and plays to them – likewise he knows his limitations and steers away from ‘trying’ too much.

He has never moaned when he has not been selected over all the years he has been with us, he just keeps his head down and gets on with it. Yet we know that when called up he will always do a job and never let us down – Scotland must have an embarrassment of riches to constantly overlook him for international involvement though!

Hughesy has been playing with a hernia problem, delaying this operation until the summer to help see us through the season and have a chance at the cup final dream – having missed the last one as he was not selected in the squad – but it seems this has been taken from him, and I am gutted for the guy…
