Martin Cranie is aiming to become a European Champion tonight – albeit it a European U21 Champion as England take on Germany in the final of the U21 Championships in Sweden.
The Pompey defender, is he a right back or central defender though, scored the opening goal for England on Friday and at 3-0 up at half time against the host nation all looked fine and dandy…an incredible fight back by the Swedes in the 2nd half meant after a 3-3 draw penalties were needed to decide who would win, and for once England held their nerve to make it through to the final!
This kicks-off at 7.45pm and is live on sky sports.
England have Pompey history on their side though as the last time we were in this final, some 25-years ago, a certain Pompey star Mark Hateley was among this squad.
The 1984 triumph was arguably the platform that sprang – or at least proved the final jump after his exploits with Pompey – the striker to bigger and better things, Cranie will be hoping that history can repeat itself…
