Global road show dead in the water

The premier league’s proposal of playing an extra 39th league game abroad has been given the cold shoulder by Fifa president Sepp Blatter who has told the BBC such an idea will almost certainly not be sanctioned by Fifa so it will basically ‘never happen’: ‘this does not take into consideration the fans of the clubs and it gives the impression that they just want to go on tour to make some money.

‘This will never happen, at least as long as I am the president of Fifa.

‘The Premier League is richer than the others, they have more responsibility and what they are trying to do is contrary to this responsibility.

‘This is something I cannot understand and definitely the Fifa executive committee will not sanction such an initiative’.

Even if the FA do approve the premier league’s plan, as Fifa will not – at least under the current committee – it would seem that the idea is doomed to fail, which will delight the vast majority of fans who thought it was a ludicrous idea anyway – which it is!

As if this was not enough, the thought that pushing ahead with this would harm our bid to stage the 2018 world cup finals should be the clincher: ‘when it comes to a decision of the executive committee concerning this matter of the 39th round, and I am sure they will be against it, then it will not have a positive impact on the bid from England for the World Cup in 2018’.

Well fellas all being well this ridiculous idea of playing an extra 39th game – wherever it was full stop! – appears doomed to failure…
