Getting carried away – and why not!

I started thinking, on my way to finally getting my problematic tooth sorted out – after fleecing me for all I was worth and giving me an abscess under a filling the dentist had put in, when I wanted the tooth out to begin with, he finally agreed to remove it – so as I say I was on my way and I just started thinking and writing…

Pompey are flying, we really are and we must be loving it, so why not make the most of it – I know I am, I am probably getting a little carried away too.

We are on our best run of top flight results in 55 years, granted we have spend much of this time outside of the top flight, but with the league tougher than ever surely this glory has to be basked in!

I am not stupid enough to think that we will never lose again, but I really do go into every game now expecting not to lose? and although this is again not something that I think will happen – not anytime soon anyway! – my attentions have actually turned to the thought that we ‘might’ one day win the league again – something I never, ever thought possible in my lifetime, but as unlikely as it might be it is a possibility one day.

Missing out on the uefa cup for this season probably was a good thing, but if we do not make it this season I will be a touch disappointed, this is how far my belief in the club has grown.

Fair enough, the first stop is ’40 points’ but then it is a real uefa cup charge, via the league or cups – but I still reckon the league cup could be ours this season. Then after this one day champions league football would be the dream – and a dream that again is not unrealistic for the future.

I am loving this journey and how the pride and passion I feel with following Pompey has never been greater, but I am also ‘pleased’, if that is the right word to have witnessed some of the darkest hours in this clubs history too – not as many as most of you – but having followed the team ‘when we were s**t’ and through some of the times when we were on the brink of closure this makes the times now all the better, which makes me all the prouder of where we are – and where we could go yet!
