With Pompey recently completing the signing of Stephen Henderson from Bristol City we have got a ‘fans-eye-view’ from a Robin.

The ed on Vital Bristol City, Andy999, has kindly answered a few questions for us in an attempt to give us a better insight into Henderson.

Without further ado this is what was asked and what was said…

Were you disappointed that Stephen Henderson left Bristol City?
Jury is out on that one. Personally I was sad to see him go as he will be a big name before long, but a few fans don’t like how he left the club.

As a ‘highly rated’ keeper I was surprised that he was allowed to leave. Any idea why he was not tied down to a new contract, that said he apparently wanted to leave as he was not likely to get a look-in anytime soon was he?
Hendo didn’t want to sign another contract to just sit about, he had ambitions of first team football and was hungry for it. It was a case of ‘play me or lose me’.

What are the strongest areas and qualities of his game?
He has a good command of the box, good at organising where he wants players at set pieces and a good shotstopper.

And the things that he is not so good at, or what let him down?
As for weaknesses, only having seen him a couple of times I can only say that I thought he could be a bit dodgy on crosses. But that may not be a fair assessment after just a couple of games.

If you were to hazard a guess, not that I suspect you really care that much, what would it be that you think made him want to join Pompey?
I would say that somewhere along the line he feels there is a better chance of getting first team football.

So, all in all have we made a good or bad signing here with Henderson?
You have what potentially could be one of the outstanding goalkeepers this league has got with the right coaching staff behind him.

Whilst we are talking what do you think would be the right hopes, or expectations, for both Bristol City and Pompey this season?
I see both clubs as top half of the table this season, but with the right signings here and there, (we could do with a bit of strength in defence) either club could push for a play-off place as I think the top places will be taken by Birmingham and West Ham.

Thanks to Andy999.

I suspect that our paths will cross again during the course of the season, a season that I wish Bristol City well in, although not too well mind!
