As I am sure everyone is aware Joey Barton had been on trial recently – being charged with assault against a former Citeh teammate. Not everyone might have been so aware that Sylvain Distin refused to give evidence, choosing to go on holiday to Crete instead…
His failure to do so has cost his a £2000 fine and a slap on the wrists, which probably hurt him more than the fine. He deserves a two grand fine for ‘that’ brown leather jacket alone!
The Frenchman was asked more than once to give evidence at the trial but failed to respond and when asked a final time to attend the case he is quoted as saying he would not and ‘they could throw me in jail’ – or words to that effect – if they wanted to as he was off on his holidays…
When handed this fine he was warned by Judge Mushtaq Khokhar that had his failure to supply evidence as requested halted the trial he would have been sent to prison, however as Barton changed his plea to guilty it did not cause any delays in the trial.

Reports in the Sunday tabloids, and some today, are once again ‘linking’ Sulley Muntari with Juventus – this one just will not go away will it…
Juve have already denied an interest in the Ghanaian once this summer, with the player himself conceding an interest as he committed to Pompey for the coming season but the latest batch or reports say that the Italians plan a £12m move!
If this were true, which I seriously doubt then I would suspect Harry Redknapp would bite the hand off that was offering the money – and I would not blame him…

Yet again, as seems to be happening quite frequently Younes Kaboul has pleaded with Harry Redknapp to sign him.
This time ‘a spokesman’ for the defender has been quoted in The Mirror as saying: ‘Harry is the only manager he wants to play for.
‘Younes is also looking forward to working with Tony Adams.’
If the price is right I have no doubt that Redknapp will look to get him onboard, but if its not then he will have to go on pleading…

And finally, Sean Davis had been ‘linked’ with Hull over the weekend, with a fee around £2.5m being mentioned, which is something most of us agree would represent a good deal for both the club and the player.
If ‘reports’ starting towards the latter part of the weekend and growing today are true Djimi Traore and Noe Pamarot could also join him…
It might even be worth paying to have Traore sold, but Pamarot is a player that I would hope we can keep a hold of, as his versatility could prove priceless this season, but with him never likely to be a regular he might see this as his chance for the regular football he needs at this stage of his career.
I would not expect we would get a fortune for the trio, but I would not have thought they would leave for anything less than £4m in total, although my own thinking is we should be looking at £5m.
Although since writing this, when I was just about to publish I see that Hull have ‘dropped’ an interest in Traore as their manager Phil Brown says that he would prefer to return to France…
So, as ever what are our thoughts on all of the above guys?
