Davis seeking ‘a fresh challenge’

So, Sean Davis is on his way – not really surprise is it as this has been on the cards for some time really…

Somewhat surprisingly though has been quoted by The News today as claiming that he has not spoken with Pompey since the final day of last season and has had a bit of a pop. But says his main reason for moving on is for a fresh challenge: ‘I have not spoken to anyone from Portsmouth since I was sick on the last day of the season.

‘To be honest, I have given up worrying about what Portsmouth say or do.

‘I enjoyed my time there but it is time for a fresh challenge.’

Bolton and Blackburn, among others, have both been ‘linked’ but Bolton were the side that have been most strongly linked and are the side he is expected to join, although he says he is ‘still undecided’ on where he is going and ‘will make a decision’ when he is back from holiday at the end of June.

It is a shame to see Davis leaving but if he did not want to stay then that is his call – he kept saying that he wanted to stay but when apparently offered a new deal he decided against this, I can see both sides of things here and probably all-in-all it will be the best thing in the end for him to seek that ‘fresh challenge’ elsewhere…

Thanks for your efforts over the years Seany and best of luck for the future, well apart from when we face you and whoever your next club may be!

The Herminator – I’ll be back?

Peter Storrie revealed this week that The Herminator was one of those that has been offered a new deal.

Some have signed, whilst others, including him, continue to mull over what is on the table.

The same report from The News also contained some info on the 34-year-old with his agent, Olafur Gardarsson, seemingly paving the way for this deal to be accepted as remaining at Fratton does seem the preferred option – either way he expects a resolution very soon: ‘we are in discussions at the moment, and we are hopeful they will be concluded one way or the other very soon.

‘We would certainly like it sorted quickly, and I think that will be the case.

‘Hermann is settled in the area and likes it at Portsmouth very much. He also has a strong relationship with the supporters, which is important to him.’

There has been no shortage of interest in the guy, with both Glasgow clubs, Celtic and Rangers linked with him and ‘he also has many offers from clubs in the Championship, Premier League and also from teams in other countries.’

I know he is not getting any younger and I know he is getting slower but I still see the guy as being someone that would be fantastic to have around the club!

Although he is also someone that will want to play regularly next season and I have this feeling that a new manager might see things differently…
