Closing in on takeover number whatever it is!?

Portsmouth Football Club and ‘takeover’s’ seem to go hand in hand these days!

By our recent standards we have gone an eternity without another takeover, although this is all ‘expected’ to change in the not too distant future with the club ‘set’ to change hands once again?

The Russian’s really do ‘look’ as if they are coming…

Due to the fact that I recently moved, although I am still going back to my old area to work at Tesco once a week – for that extra bit of assured money – Thursday’s are pretty much written of these days, so with the travelling, spending time with my folks (who will put me up every Thursday night) and then actually working I am a bit behind most of the events today and can only base what I say on titbits that I have seen on t’internet and what I am ‘hoping’ we get from any would be owners.

Although as I suspect most are now fully aware of investment bankers Seymour Pierce were charged with finding us another new owner and their chairman Keith Harris is not ‘dismissing’ the talk that Convers Sports Initiatives (CSI) were closing in on a takeover.

Some talk says that this could be conducted by next weekend, as Due Diligence (DD) has been ongoing in recent weeks.

‘If’ this takeover does go through I wonder if this finally will bring a sustained period of stability for PFC?

Like it or not I still say, in many ways, the way we have been run this season has been the right way – clearly the owners have not wanted to put in anymore than they really had to but had they done so we would have ended up going up a certain creek once more.

When new owners do come in if they are ‘splashing the cash’ left right and centre this will set off some alarm bells on my mind as a certain case of déjà vu would be felt again – although this time you would think that these alarm bells would go off sooner by a larger number of people.

You do not get something for nothing in this world, so whoever does come in will want something back. That is fair enough, so long as it is not an undue or unfair amount with PFC’s long-term future again put at risk in the meantime.

The main aims of any would be owners should be to ensure that we sort out our problems in the years ahead, paying off what we have to in an agreed period of time, as well as bringing together a squad that is realistically sustainable over a period of time that can also see us playing on a more even playing field more often than not.

If we can finally sort out the infrastructure at this club we can leave ourselves with a long-term future that ‘should’ be bright.

The positive thing with CSI, I would say, is the fact that this group ‘seems’ to contain a genuine football man, so if the partners can offer support, guidance and most of all finance – a realistic level that is sustainable – then maybe, just maybe we could be onto a winner?

Although, whilst not being dismissive of anyone, I think a cautious optimism is something most will take with any newbie owners…
