Sol Campbell will not be tempted by a move away this summer as he has unfinished business here, not my vote, yours – although these findings from pompeyrug’s poll are thoughts that I do not agree with to be honest.
Campbell is being ‘linked’ with a summer move to Spain and Villarreal, a move that would ‘apparently’ see him invoke a ‘release clause’ in his contract that allows him to leave of a free?
At times this season Campbell has looked a shadow of the player that he can be, with the signs that time is catching up on him evident, on the other hand he has been brilliant at other times – maybe at times he is lacking motivation, as if he is lacking this in recent years his performances have dwindled as a result.
The majority just about feel he will want to stay here to try and go that step further with us, and he has often said that he wants to play on for a good few years yet, so given a proper break every now and again – something that he has not really been afforded this season – then I could see him going on for a good few years here yet, but I do have this feeling that he might move on as he often says we will not be his final club and he would like to play abroad, and if he does not take this chance – if it comes up – I do not think he will get another, well not with a top European club anyway?
We will find out soon enough what the captain has planned, should he leave though what better way to go out than holding aloft the FA cup in May!
