Appy still (hopefully) has ‘special’ plans

I used the phrase ‘time is of the essence’ in an article back along referring to the need to actually get Portsmouth Football Club taken over again!

Of course, first and foremost, this is a must – but following this it is also imperative that Appy is then given as much time as possible to rebuild his squad…

If anyone is kidding themselves that much money, in fact ANY, will be spent they are doing just that – kidding themselves!

We cannot, and should not, be spending money for a while yet.

Exeter City is the model to look at, yep I know they have been relegated from league one but on a shoe-string budget with a decent young manager – albeit a scummer – they have done pretty well having spent, from what I was told, a mere £50,000 on players in the past 2-3-years!

Appy has been ‘scouring the country’ looking for players, and if he is given the time needed I am pretty sure that he can assemble a decent squad on realistic wages – but like I say he needs to be able to do this sooner, rather than later.

He will be hoping that his ‘5-year plan’ can then kick-start itself with him, as he told The News a couple of weeks back, looking to sell his ‘special plans’ with these players.

Appy is keen to sell to them the idea that he can build a squad to take us forward again: ‘I’ve been all over the country trying to speak to players and get things sorted, so I don’t get caught on the hop.

‘As soon as it’s sorted the better for me so I can start physically putting it on the line with players.

‘Selling the potential here would probably be something I would use to sell the club to players who could get a Championship club.

‘If they are prepared to take 12 months out and be part of something which could be special for the next three or four seasons, that’s what I’ll be looking to do.’

It all sounds great doesn’t it eh!

I am pretty sure, given the fact that Appy has proven he can ‘pick a player`; given the right amount of time to assemble this squad he can do so. I do not think that anyone should ‘expect’ promotion next season, but at the same time why totally dismiss it…

Like I say first and foremost a takeover needs to go through, once it does Appy must be able to start to build his squad by being allowed to bring in free agents on sensible money.

That said it is becoming harder and harder, and all too familiar, for Appy to be able to do what he wants, and even needs, to do this summer.

He is also seemingly becoming more and more resigned to the fact that he faces an uphill struggle to implement the changes he wants, but I am sure that even if he is given the slightest opportunity to bring in a few players he wants then his eye for a player would see the right ones obtained.

Until we shift more, well any, of the big earners though nothing is going to happen at Fratton is it on so many levels is it…
