Another couple of months then lets see!

When David Cotterill signed on, for an ‘initial 28-days’, I was quietly optimistic about what he could do for us.

Albeit in only a few appearances I cannot say that I am unhappy with his contribution.

To be honest with you my thinking was that if he could offer ‘as much’ as John Utaka did then we would at least be none the worse off for ‘losing’ the Nigerian – as said, its only a few games, but can anyone really say he is offering less than The Torpedo would have?

Granted we do not get too carried away as if you recall Utaka started his Pompey career like a house on fire, more often than not in the years that followed these initially blazing months he was like the crumbling remains!

Cotterill, player not manager, has said that he is open to an extended stay with Pompey.

Quite if he means in the longer-term or just an extension to his loan is unknown although just extending this loan for another couple of months until the end of the season would do me – we then see what happens from there.

As I have said recently his partnership with Ritchie de Laet has been fantastic, and this has made a real difference to our season as we have marched to, what should be, championship survival, another couple of wins on the spin and who knows…

Hopefully Swansea will be willing to do us a favour for the remaining months of the season, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed, although – and it ‘probably’ means something – the player at least is open to extending his loan, and that is a good thing.
