All change on Saturday

No, Kenny Jackett isn’t planning to go with the ‘wholesale changes’ approach for Pompey’s next friendly, the Blues boss has made it clear he’s looking, when possible, to give players as much game time as he can.

The all change refers to the amendment to our pre-season schedule.

On Tuesday, the decision was made to cancel the friendly at Eastleigh. Having previously seen a proposed Bognor game culled this is now ON again.

Eastleigh’s newly laid pitch at the Silverlake Stadium has been of concern. League One rivals AFC Wimbledon postponed their proposed friendly and Pompey, quite rightly, followed suit as the Blues ‘didn’t want to take any risks’, said Mark Catlin.

It was a no-brainer wasn’t it. Yes, you want minutes under your belt and it’s preferable to help local sides financially, but this wouldn’t be any comfort to anyone if a player sustained a serious injury would it.

A trip to Nyewood Lane to face Bognor on Saturday will do the job.

Maybe there will be a chance to arrange some sort of friendly with Eastleigh once the pitch has settled and if there’s a window, or opportunity, to do so? Bognor will kick off at 1:30pm.
