A look back at this day in history, and what was happening with Pompey courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama.

No Pompey games have previously played on this day.

Due to this lack of games, well, none of them it will be straight onto the other feature – again courtesy of PompeyRama – looking at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

12/7/1950: Joe Laidlaw

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Joe Laidlaw – the Pompey player from the Blues’ past born on this day.

I know of Laidlaw well enough by name but he wasn’t a player I ever saw in action for Pompey or play at all as a footballer as he was well before my time.

I’m fairly sure a good few did see him through from his time at Fratton Park in the last 70s/early 80s.

What are your memories of Laidlaw from his Pompey days?
