Off-the-field activities seem to dominate proceedings with Portsmouth Football Club these days.
Whilst we, of course, cannot bury our head in the sand and ignore the crisis that engulfs this club it is nice to occasionally talk about the on-the-field actions isn’t it!
That said the off-the-field actions have now made such and importance to what happens on it that even with a positive outcome what has happened off-the-pitch becomes all the more relevant – if that makes sense?
Anyway, lets just get to the point eh with my point being that I thought the weekend brought an impressive start to Scott Allan’s Pompey spell.
The Scot arrived on loan from West Brom ahead of the Leeds game, arriving with few knowing much, if anything, about the youngster but his talking on the Fratton turf at the weekend answered quite a lot of questions really.
To be fair I could not really fault the effort and application of anyone at the weekend, everyone gave absolutely 100%, the fans included all around Fratton, our only problem – which is quite a big one really! – being that we continue to look light when it comes to going forward with an end product not often looking likely to come…
Before the game a point, even at home, would have represented a good point, and it still is. The problem is literally all the results went against us so it now leaves us further adrift of safety but there is still all to play for!
We have players returning and if the fans continue to play their part I can see points being picked up in March. We have eight ‘cup finals’ being played with us needing to collect some decent points as the season is passing by now.
Back to Allan now…
Hopefully the creative ability that he looks to have will help us out. He looks willing, and able, to run with the ball, run at people and cause problems. If he can create space for others to run into, if not take it himself, then actually looking creative coming forward is something we could start doing!
At times he left the ball behind, or tried to impress too much, but never gave up fighting.
When his full match sharpness returns we might have unearthed a little gem here that, finances permitting, ‘might’ be able to stay on loan until the end of the season, or at least a large chunk of it?
If so then he might just prove a ‘surprise’ and ‘secret’ weapon to help guide us to championship survival, something that I think is vitally important if we are going to have a chance of seeing PFC live on as we know it…
But for Stephen Henderson, who made a few crucial saves to prevent us from being beaten, I would go as far as saying that Allan was probably my man of the match.
