The Winds of Change

An article from plymouth graham with him wondering if a pattern is forming to herald the winds of change at Portsmouth Football Club? Read on for more.

As one of those blokes who has always seen patterns in things, whether it be social or historical, mystical or religious, I am now wondering if I am seeing a pattern forming at our club that may be heralding the winds of change.

Now to many minds Pompey may be in a difficult place at the moment, and when I took a bit of soft verbal abuse from a “Red Striper” in the Overton Co-op, whilst back in God’s own county, visiting my dad who has been poorly, I found myself rebuffing their teasing by saying that I thought that this administration was a positive thing because it might just rid us once and for all, of the “criminals” that have been running the club over the recent years.

This off the cuff statement then started me thinking, and I recalled the joy on January 31st seeing that the “Wolf Pack” would not be leaving the club for Ipswich or anywhere else, and then that second wave of joy when we read that AA would not be the administrator again for the second time. The more I thought about this, the more I saw a positive pattern of events forming.

I saw an unpopular manager, who played unattractive football, leaving the club for a team that we would later find ourselves in a relegation battle against.

I saw the appointment of an “unknown” as the new manager, who is very quickly becoming a very popular chap, who is both in tune with the fans and inspires his players?. and plays attractive football.

I saw the owner being arrested on possible money laundering charges, that if proven may show that Pompey escaped early, and may have been burdened with insurmountable debt had the club been used as vehicle (especially as I subscribe to the theory that this was exactly what had happened in the past)..Who knows about that one?

I saw the “Wolf Pack” staying at the club as stated above.

I saw the HMRC agree to administration but deny Chainrai’s £500k “sweetener” to have Admin Andy back in the leading role, and then appoint Trevor Birch a well-respected administrator with a football background.

I saw Trevor Birch speak to the PST without proving they had £100m first, and say he will explore the validity of the BC’s Debenture.

I saw the Football league dishing out a minimum 10 point deduction for the Administration. Could this at last herald a long term positive wind of change, what might we see wash in on the next tide.
