Eugen Bopp?

One of the most, if not the most, unusual ‘non-signings’ in Pompey’s history – and boy have we had some bizarre ones over the years – has to be Eugen Bopp?!

Yep, we were well and truly scratching around the bottom of the barrel at the time but what on earth was Paul Hart thinking…

Bopp played in a number of pre-season games, scoring against Havant I think, and also went to Portugal with the 1st team for an ill-fated return to a GuimarĂ£es, a place of such triumph just a year or so earlier.

An up and coming talent was Bopp, some decade or so prior!

Since his failure to make the grade at Forest he had spent most of his years kicking around the lower leagues at the likes of Northampton and Crewe I think, and we picked him up after his release from a club at the lowest level of the football league.

Fortunately a transfer embargo prevented us signing him after his released by league two Crewe, how Hart thought he could cut it is still beyond me…

After spending a season with us on non-contract terms he, well I do not know what he did?

Do you…

So, does anyone know what came of Eugen Bopp after his departure from Pompey?

Leave some thoughts below…

I still intend to write more like this, but I also open the floor to any Vital Pompey members to submit some to me too!
