What exactly is going on with Dejan?

Today’s paper talk is linking Dejan Stefanovic with a move to Boro for something like £750,000.

Maybe he will leave this month, or in January, almost certainly next summer – if he is still here – but this will not be for Boro will it, if he goes anywhere it will almost certainly be to Leicester.

My thinking, as I have said several times before, is Dejan will find it increasingly hard to play this season – although maybe playing him now might not be a bad thing? – but I would still prefer to keep him here as Hermann Hreidarsson’s debut performance for Pompey at left back did not fill me with that much optimism.

Dejan has certainly had his better days but the defence, which is meant to be our strongest area, looked anything but certain against Derby. So, although we have some new players that need to gel in together – which pre season should have done – with the opening fixtures we have maybe it is better to go with the experienced head of Dejan, if not at left back maybe alongside Sol Campbell with Sylvain Distin moving out to the left?

With Andy O’Brien today leaving for Bolton, this is another reason why we should not really be looking to lose Dejan, as we would then only be an injury or suspension or two away from being very stretched at the back – particularly in the central defensive position.

It has been claimed that Dejan is currently out with an injury, but this only seemed to conveniently come out just before the season started when he lost the captaincy – and one of the matches in which he was supposed to have been injured for in pre season, actually saw him on the bench.

Does anyone know what the score actually is – is Dejan really injured or is he being treated with the lack of respect that he recently claimed?

I have to admit that I was all for leaving him out of the side, but if he is fit – as suspect as he may have looked at times last season – does anyone else think that maybe his experience could be needed in these opening matches of the season against some very tough opponents?
