What a transfer window on the whole

Some 24 hours and a bottle of Vodka later, despite my initially downcast views, on reflection what a great summer transfer window it has been for Pompey – come on we cannot deny this!

Friday was a bitterly disappointing day for most of us, not just me, with the comings and goings no way, no matter what anyone says, improving us – but looking at the bigger picture, the 3 months of the transfer window as a whole and not just the 1 day of Friday, the transfer dealings that Pompey have undertaken have been phenomenal.

For Pompey to have spent close to £30m in 3 months to sign, or re sign players of the quality that we have is almost unthinkable, as is the transformation that Pompey have undergone in the past 12-18 months – all of which has been beyond most of our wildest dreams.

Yep, one or two people – particularly Gary O’Neil – leaving have been almost heart breaking, but when you evaluate the whole transfer window taking into account some of the dead wood that has been offloaded and some of the money recouped for those leaving etc. on the whole those that have come in far outweigh those that have gone in terms of quality and where they could take us.

We will probably face further difficult decisions being made in time, but so long as they are all part of the longer term plans to take us to incredible new heights, as disappointing as they may initially seem the longer-term picture for this club will shine through.

Onwards and upwards now for Pompey, disappointment has been put aside and reflection of the overall quality that the whole transfer window has seen us bring in leaves me very pleased with everything that has happened since June – and where it leaves us, not to mention where it could take us.
