We hope Nuge stays, but fear he wont

I want David Nugent to stay with Pompey, but I think that he will be sold in January! Not my vote, yours – although these findings from the poll are thoughts I share to be honest.

I really do think that Nugent will be a top class footballer and hope that it will be with Pompey, but I just fear that things are not really meant to be with him here?

I have backed the fella all the way when he has been slagged off, but for whatever reason things just do not seem to be clicking for him here, granted he has not played much so it is hard to judge him but I just have this feeling that Harry Redknapp might have already made up his mind on him and he might not fit into his plans…

As I say I have backed him but he was not good against Blackburn last week, far from it and for the first time being completely honest I came away from the game being quite critical of him when talking to my cousin and my other cousin’s boyfriend, well we all did.

I hope he can turn things around but I am concerned, I really am, particularly after he was left out of the squad at the weekend altogether.

NorthStandDan had a theory on Nugent, which he put in a comment he made – this is it…

The will-Nuge-stay-will-Nuge-go question is an interesting one.

I have a feeling that come this time next year he’ll be playing and scoring regularly for us. I don’t think Harry is the kind of manager to splash that much cash and let it waste away and lose value on the bench.

I think Harry is being rather clever, because when Nuge arrived he was acting like a big time Charlie who’d made his big Premier move with an England goal under his belt. All the hanging around for an Everton offer showed his ego was a bit too big.

By hardly playing him, Harry has:

1) Protected Nugent from fans who might quickly turn against him if he wasn’t an instant success.

2) Shrunk Nuge’s ego and made him desperate to play and prove himself.

3) Not disrupted Benji’s outstanding form. I think Harry is playing a long game, and as soon as we get an injury or a dip in form from Benji, we’ll have a top-quality striker ready to replace him, desperate to make an impact.

An interesting theory, one that I had not thought of, but one I would very much hope could be right.

What the poll asked – Dave Nugent – what should, will or would you like to happen to him?

How you voted – I want him to stay, but think he will go 38%, I want him to stay and play 23%, He will be sold if an offer comes in 18%, He will stay 11%, He will go on loan 6%, I want him to stay 4%

Current Poll – October pretty much carried on where most of September – Arsenal aside – had left off, what a month October was – Halloween aside, of course with a defeat and in terms of performance West Ham.

Plenty of players put in plenty of top performances during October, but who was the cream of the crop, that is what pompeyrug wants to know with this – ‘Pompey’s player of the month for October?’ Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.
