Wallace contract option exercised

The risk of Jed Wallace walking away for nothing, or next to nothing, this summer has been eliminated.

Wallace’s contract was due to expire this summer, although the option to extend it for another year was put there in our favour and we have – as you would expect – taken this.

As he told The Pompey Site Guy Whittingham is happy to have extended his deal for another season but hopes to keep him for longer: ‘we’ve taken up the option of an extra year and it’s great to have Jed here for at least another season.

‘However, he’s an important player for us and we’ll be looking to negotiate a longer deal in due course.’

I would love us to be able to extend his contract even longer but would still be surprised if we managed to keep him beyond summer let alone the next…

At least the ball is now in our court!

A fee would have been ‘nominal’ had his contract expired but we now know we will be able to at least demand a more realistic fee for a player of his current ability and future potential.
