Chix speaks to Vital Fulham’s ‘Putney’ about Pompey, Fulham, life in general and that rumour surrounding Diomansy Kamara

Name: Putney

Tell us a little about yourself (How long have you been supporting Fulham, do you attend Craven Cottage on a regular basis ..etc?)

Been around the scene for a long time but due to work I don’t get down to Craven Cottage as often as I’d like but someone has to pay the bills!

What is your greatest moment as a Fulham fan?

I’d have to say, in recent times, the win at Fratton Park last season. If we’d have gone down it would have been a hard road back and to stay up after everybody suggested we were doomed was a great experience.

Who is your favourite Fulham player of all time?

Of all time? It just has to be George Best. I still feel privileged that he donned our shirt even if it was at the twilight of his career.

What’s it like being owned by an Al-Fayed and do you get a discount in Harrods?

Shop at Harrods – are you mad? We`re not all rich and pampered and live in effluent West London you know. Al-Fayed is a great guy, he’s put his money where his mouth is and has had a rough deal from the establishment. Okay, he might have got a few crazy ideas about the Princess Di and Dodi tragedy but he lost his son and that’s enough to crank anyone’s emotions up.

Hodgson (and Pompey) kept you up last season. Can he keep you in the Premiership this season?

Keep us in the Premier League! Okay we’ve slipped a few places recently but we’re looking for more than survival this season. We’ve spent heavily and Roy needs to secure a place at least in mid table.

What do you think of Hodgson’s idea on the fixture switching for international matches?

I’m all for it. It makes sense to give the players back to the clubs for a week instead of crocked players returning on a Thursday when there’s a fixture on the Saturday! But, it’s so sensible it’ll never happen.

Early days I know, but who would you consider to be your best summer signing?

Bobby Zamora impressed in his first few games and he scored a cracking goal but, like you say, it is early days and out of the batch I’d expect Andrew Johnson to become very prominent in the coming months considering how much we paid for him.

Do you think you`ll manage to keep Jimmy Bullard in January?

Definitely! It’s not as if we’re a selling club anymore. Besides, would he really leave us to go to crummy Bolton!

If you could pick one Pompey player to play for Fulham, who would it be and why?

I’d go for Defoe, a natural goal scorer and somebody who will always get you at least fifteen goals in a season.

Which Fulham player can do Pompey the most damage on Sunday and why?

Jimmy Bullard, if you let him get settled and give him time on the ball and don’t give away any free kicks about twenty-five yards out.

Conversely, which Pompey player do you feel can do Fulham the most damage?

Defoe! Like I said he’s a natural goal scorer and our defence, in Hangeland, is pretty tall and I wonder how we’ll deal with a nippy player like Defoe.

Have you been to Fratton Park before and if so what did you think of it?

A couple of times now and although it’s improved with the roof over the away end, it really does still need knocking down! Mind you, the atmosphere is second to none, I’ll give you that.

What’s the one song we are guaranteed to hear from your travelling supporters on Sunday?

With the racket you lot make you may struggle to hear us but we’ll offer you a few rousing choruses when we take the lead (again).

Realistically, what do you expect the score to be?

It’ll be a tight game and I’d love to see us win 2-1 but it’ll be more like 1-0 to us, Murphy again!

What are your hopes for this season? (What would you class as a success or disaster)

Disaster would be relegation, I don’t know if we’d bounce back. A success would be mid table with a healthy FA Cup run.

Where would you expect to see Pompey finish come May?

I’ll go for seventh or eighth but you’ll not retain the FA Cup!

Finally, do you get embarrassed having the nickname ‘The Cottagers’ and is there any truth in the Diomansy Kamara rumour?

Sorry, we don’t do rumours, we’re a respectable site and as for nicknames at lest ours doesn’t sound like poppy!

My thanks to Putney for his thoughts and comments ahead of tomorrow’s game, much appreciated.

So, Putney reckons Fulham will walk away with all three points and we will not retain the FA Cup.

Your responses Ladies and Gentlemen please.
