Pompey have completed the signing of Arsenal left back Armand Traore on a season loan deal.

The 18-year old has told the Pompey Site that he is excited by this move as it gives him the chance to work with some former teammates and work under Harry Redknapp: ‘I know a lot of players in the team – I trained with Sol and Lauren at Arsenal and I know Younes Kaboul and Lassana Diarra.

‘I spoke to Younes, he said that it’s a very good club and that I would do well here.

‘Harry Redknapp is a good manager and the fact that he told me he had confidence in me; that was a big reason for me to come here.

‘And Portsmouth are a very good team. They are in the UEFA Cup and that’s great for the club.’

He has also set his sights on finishing high in the league and winning a trophy as well: ‘I want us to be up in the top half of the table and to win at least a trophy.

‘It would be great to defend the FA Cup – I think that it’s a great competition.’

Peter Storrie has said that we have beaten several other clubs to bring him in.

It is a really good move as he looks a fantastic footballer. With Redknapp prepared to bring him in, and hopefully use him this might also suggest that he is prepared to use some of the younger players that we have coming through also, so long as they are good enough…
