Traore back to his Liverpool best

Djimi Traore has told the Pompey Site how he is pleased with his current form and how he feels he is back to his best, ‘I’m pleased with my form, I worked hard during pre-season to reach the right level. I’m back like I was at Liverpool.

‘For me, it’s all about confidence, I’m not thinking about making a bad pass or a mistake. I play forward, I try to attack like a winger. I always think positive and try to stay focused for 90 minutes’.

I was dead against Traore’s signing when he first arrived, as when he did I voiced my obvious disgust, as did many others in fairness, at his worth – those of you that have been with this site for some time may well remember my rant, when I was a mere match day reporter.

However in my defence I always said that I would back him now that he was a Pompey player and soon backtracked and rethought my stance, deciding that the fella deserved a chance, as past reputations are not always true.

Early on he did little to change my mind, but he has steadily improved and during pre season and the start to this campaign, despite the odd blip in concentration I have been impressed with him, as I was towards the end of last season – his goal line clearance against Arsenal was fantastic.

He had some shockers for Liverpool, the attempted back heeler off the line against Burnley an all time classic, but at the end of the day he played over 100 matches for them and won a champions league winners medal, so he could never have been as bad as he was made out anyway.

Yep, I like Traore and feel we will see the very best of him at Fratton.
