Welcome to the Pompey Chimes – the definitive guide to the past week in the world of Pompey.

Club News

Fantastic news this week as Dr SAF’s takeover is complete, well just about! I’m sure all Pompey fans everywhere will welcome the Dubai-based bajillionaire to Fratton, so read about his takeover here, and also join Vital Portsmouth in saluting outgoing Chairman Sascha Gaydamak here.

Speculation over the managerial post at our beloved club also ended this week, with Paul Hart being offered the hot seat. Not something I’m overly pleased with to be honest with you all, however make your own mind up by reading about it here. Hart has also come forth and commented on the task ahead, which you can read here.

Unfortunately Pompey’s pre-season got off to a slightly rocky start as Havant & Waterlooville held us to a 2-2 draw. Read the match report here. One Vital Pompey contributor Battenberg was there that evening, and you can read his assessment of the squad here.

As Sven Goran Eriksson packed his bags from Mexico a few months back he could’ve gone anywhere (Pompey included, eh Chix!!), but he’s now ended up in Nottingham! If this wasn’t the start of silly season then Maradona being linked to Pompey as a Global Ambassador is!! Read about that here, and read about how honestly ludicrous that really is here as he is linked to bring in some quality players. Must admit though, I would have loved it if it was true….

Pompey have a new shirt sponsor by way of Jobsite, which sees the Fratton End renames as the Jobsite Stand. Read about the sponsorship deal on the Jobsite website, as well as clicking here.

Squad News

Well not a lot of transfer talk this week, as even Crouch’s apparent imminent departure hasn’t really been mooted all that much. Click here to hear about Peter Storrie’s assertion that Sylvain Distin is staying.

One player who IS linked to Pompey, however, is Nikola Kalinic. Slaven Bilic has described the Hajduk Split hitman as the future of Croatian Football, and Chimes sources says the £6m deal is as good as complete.

Chix and Dave’s Quiz has entered Week 3, and click here for the latest round of questions. There are also links within this to the previous week’s questions, as it’s not too late to enter!

Another good read can be found here, where Paulisrael looks back fondly on his early memories of Portsmouth Football Club.

Now the takeover is complete, just about, it is time to examine the current squad, and decide who will be our captain next season in the event that Sol Campbell leaves the club. Click here to read russellm’s verdict on the potential candidates. Also, the latest poll found that Distin should be the next captain, more on that here.

Shameless plug time!! Click here to read all about a new feature I’m trying to start up. If you have a Pompey viewpoint that is ‘controversial’, and you want to bring before the Judge for ruling, then click the link and get in touch!

Gino’s Fact of the Week

Did you know that Portsmouth and Southampton have only ever played in the same league for three seasons since 1977? The seasons where 1987-88, 2003-04 and 2004-05. Including Southern League games, there have been 67 games between the clubs, with Portsmouth winning 20 and Southampton 34.

The teams in League One next season that are ex-Premiership teams are:

Southampton, Norwich, Charlton, Oldham, Swindon and Leeds! You all got there eventually!

This week’s question: Which player has scored the most Premier League goals but has NEVER scored a hat-trick?
