The clock ticks down…

What clock?

Good question really, as we do actually have a few ticking down at the moment but whilst the clock that is ticking down until the latest meeting with HMRC – which very well could end it all for PFC this time – and with that the clock to find a new owner is also passing by the clock in question at the moment is the one that is nearest to reaching the zero counter…

This clock of course is the one that signals the end of the January transfer window, which comes at 11pm tomorrow – I would have thought midnight, but apparently it is 11pm?

I think that the vast majority expected ‘fairly’ heavy movement outwards of Fratton, but thus far only The Herminator has moved on, and this – as much as I like, respect and admired the guy – was in our best interests really.

As I think we all know a definite interest in Jason Pearce and Joel Ward from Ipswich is there.

Plenty of ‘rumours’ are also saying that Stephen Henderson and/or Dave Kitson are also wanted by The Tractor Boys…

More than once I have said that I have little doubt that Pearce and Ward want to stay, and this is something that Pearce has voiced himself, although he also knows it is ‘out of his hands.’

What will happen, who knows: ‘it is all out of my hands, all I can do is give 100 per cent for the club.

‘I love the club and everyone knows that. I want to stay but who knows what will happen.

‘It is nice to be talked about and wanted but I have to just get on with my job. I’m a Portsmouth player and that is all that matters.’

It was said last week that his ‘departure was imminent’, thus far we have managed to hold out and go into the final 36-hours or so with Pearce still a Pompey man, and Pompey scorer having netted in the weekend win.

Will he be a Pompey player come February 1st?

That is another matter altogether and really only time will tell…

Appy knows that players possibly, maybe even probably, have to be sold but remains in the dark as to what movements, if any, are actually going on: ‘if people make bids for our players we have to listen as we have a big bill to pay on February 20.

‘I had one conversation with Paul Jewell two weeks ago after their initial bid for Pearce and Ward.

‘It wasn’t acceptable and I have spoken to no one from Ipswich since.

‘I keep hearing about second and third bids but until Ipswich tell me they are interested I will carry on working with my players.’

The latest ‘speculation’ surrounding Pearce, Ward and Henderson is that Ipswich are trying to ‘sweeten the pot’ by adding Grant Leadbitter and Damien Delaney as makeweights in the deal?

Midfielder Leadbitter would be a permanent arrival, on a free, and defender Delaney in a possible loan deal until the end of the season – although the Ipswich based reports also say that neither player could be that keen on joining a club in ‘turmoil’, like PFC are.

Now all we can do is play the waiting game, even if it does suck…
