The benefits of little and large…

…and nope I do not mean Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe – although they will obviously be a fantastic pairing and that will be a benefit, but I mean that man who ‘might’ supply them…

I think that on the whole we accepted the Glen Little signing fairly well, few threw the dummies out of the pram in disgust demanding the head of Peter Storrie or Harry Redknapp for bringing us ‘such a player’… granted we might have been surprised but it did not take us long to see the bigger picture and understand that his signing could in fact become very beneficial!

With the immanent arrival of Crouch the signing of Little may well prove a master stoke by Pompey, and although I am still not convinced that he will be a week in week out regular I now feel that he could play that touch more than even I first suspected…

Crouch is more that just ‘a big man’ that can be used as a target, much, much more – his all-round game is fantastic and he will offer so much, but with the crossing ability that Little has – and trust me this is much better than just about anyone we currently have at the club, even if technically they are far superior – if he gets his delivery right then our strikers will have a field day!

We saw for England against Trindad recently just a brief snippet of what we can expect from Crouch and Defoe, add the service that is needed and just think how many knockdowns Crouch could supply to Defoe, then if he does not finish I would suspect that the big man would then be on hand to tuck home the rebounds!

Mouth-watering, that is what this probable ‘little and large’ pairing is for me, but whilst I would still like to see Shaun Wright-Phillips arrive should this not come off then Little could prove to be very big for Pompey…
