Taylor’s first signs of discontent

I always enjoy reading Matty Taylor’s blogs on setanta sports but his most recent one today here shows his first real signs that he might be looking to move on in January…

Reading these blogs I have always been more than impressed with his attitude towards not playing, he has accepted that others had been playing well so it is understandable that he could not get into the side, but he now admits that if he does not get some action in December he will have to look at his own position with the club: ‘This season is proving to be a difficult one and it’s getting to a point where I’ve got to play football. If not, I’ve got to do something about it.

‘My aim is to keep trying my best to get into the team, but if I don’t get a chance during December I’ve got to start evaluating things.

‘Hopefully I’ll get a chance to show what I can do because I know I can make an impact on The Premier League, but obviously it’s difficult to moan at the moment because the team’s playing well’.

His frustration is understandable and others playing so well makes it hard for him to get in, but – and as I have already pointed out this week – my own personally thoughts are that not everyone has been playing as well recently as they were, the man that I mostly mean is John Utaka – don’t get me wrong I like the fella and think he will be fantastic for Pompey.

Providing Taylor stays he is likely to get plenty of football in January, but I can see why his frustration is building as Utaka has been off form for a number of weeks now, yet he stays in the team, so the longer this happens the more likely it is that Taylor will move on anyway – not because he wants to, but for the sake of his career… he is a footballer, he just wants to play and preferably he wants that here, as do we.

We will find out soon enough what Harry Redknapp decides, but once again I find myself saying – and not just because of what Taylor has written – I very much hope that Redknapp does give Taylor a start tomorrow, even if this means Utaka missing out, which I do not think it will be a bad thing in the long run.
