Matty Taylor has praised Benjani`s work ethic and describes his 4.1 million pound move to Portsmouth as money well spent.

‘Benji works hard and it was nice to see him get a goal at Chelsea. As I first said towards the end of last season, everybody’s now seeing it’s money well spent on him.

‘Benji is the most honest footballer you’re going to meet. He’s going to work for 90 minutes, he’s popping up with goals and in him, Cole, Kanu and Lualua we have four very good forwards. He gives 110 per cent every game and you can’t ask for anything more. The fans are seeing that now.

‘Last season he was getting a bit of unfair press I thought, people were maybe not talking so highly of him whereas on the training pitch he has been fantastic. I’m glad for him this season, I’m pleased he’s got himself on the scoresheet a lot more this year. There’ll be more goals to come.

‘If you keep working hard and putting yourself in the correct places it’s going to come for you every now and then. He put his goal away nicely against Chelsea and I’m sure that will continue.’

‘I don’t think I’ve played with a striker who works so hard. You ask John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho if they have been in a game and they’ll tell you.

‘But he’s not the only one who works tirelessly for the cause. We’ve got 11 people who have undoubted ability on the pitch, but obviously that’s not all you need. You need to make sure with that ability you are going to work hard and we’ve got that in abundance.’

Benjani is likely to get an opportunity to score again tonight as Pompey face Newcastle in the Carling Cup.
