In the comments to last week’s Toast my old mate pentonpompey criticised me for never writing about a Pompey win. Well Andy your wish is my command and this morning we are all feeling so much better with life. Sure we are still bottom of the table but the players will now have the confidence to move to another level and turn these good performances into points on the board.
Of course there is a long way to go. No striker has scored a league goal yet this season and it is strikers that score goals to win games but the monkey is now off our backs. If Phil Thompson describes the display as excellent, then we probably were pretty good.

Now we love coincidences at Toast and yesterday’s win was the last league game as I complete fifty years of watching Pompey. It came of course after the previous eight league games had been lost. Well my first against Plymouth back in 1959 which Pompey won 1-0 came after we had lost the last nine league games. Curious but true.

For youngsters that is short for That was the week, that was.
Well another quiet week in the life of a Pompey fan. We have had the players not paid, failure to attract a new Assistant Manager and then the owner ends up in the emergency room. On top of that we had the Board telling us the money has run out and they take out an emergency loan.
We have seen headlines such as Pay up Pompey, Pompey on the brink and I for one have seen enough of them. There was another fans meeting arranged for tonight but that has been cancelled as a statement from the club is expected shortly on the financial future.
Must admit the inbox is now under control due to the help of the delete button – does come in useful.

Well there are two happy Pompey fans in the Eastleigh area after the club gave them a day out of a lifetime. The club do not like having guests at training sessions but that changed when Head of Operations, Lucius Peart received an email from Vital Pompey member Mrs3ps.
Her son Adam just eighteen has been studying for his FA Coaching badges and has just completed the first successfully. Adam has been coaching for a few years at school when asked to do look after one of younger school teams by a teacher. This was a success and he was then asked by a parent to coach a local under 14 team – Granley Rovers.
Adam is currently coaching Stoneham under 16s in Eastleigh and has a useful looking career in front of him. With this impressive CV and the fact that Adam had a SO postcode, Lucius arranged for Adam and his Grandfather, Alan to attend a training session last week.
Alan has been watching Pompey since 1959 and took his daughter Mrs3ps to games as he had no sons. She used to sit on top of the tunnel as a game and watch her heroes. He was more awestruck than Adam at the Training ground as they watched training and then had a long chat with manager Paul Hart before the player emerged to sign autographs.
Alan told me he said to Harty ‘thanks for what you are doing for the club’. PH replied ‘I haven`t done anything, YET!’ The nice coincidence for Alan was the day after the session he retired from work.
Well done to Adam, keep it up. Happy retirement to Alan and very well done to Pompey for making the day possible and two fans very happy.
The only problem the boys had was recognising the players and they have sent me some photos which I have put in the albums here. Perhaps Toasters you could help Adam and Alan by putting the names to them.

The fun of fifty years?
After fifty years of supporting Pompey just a few of the high spots and the strange things that come to mind.
19th August 1972 – Cardiff at home – hot day their strip was a lurid yellow and purple. The mixture of the two made my first wife feel so unwell that she spent most the game in the first aid hut!! I did remember to collect her after the game. We won 3-1 after being one down at half time.
Blackburn in the cup – 25th January 1969 – special train subject to awful delays and although buses were laid on to take us to the game we arrived late and by the time we got in were already 1-0 down. John Milkins missed the game and Ray Potter played his only game of the season in goal. Pompey were rubbish that and eventually lost 4-0. We got wet getting back to the station and the train home was no better than the one on the way there.
Then there was a game at the end of a season with Carlisle where I fell asleep on the Milton End terrace! Or the interview with Chix for MOTD2 in 2007.

Fed up? Emigrate!
Rug, UKTony and I attended Pompey4me`s leaving do recently at Fratton Park. For those not in the know Simon and family are emigrating to Perth in Western Australia and will be joining the happy throng of fans in that area. We will put them all in touch when Simon arrives so that those there can take him under their wing.
I now gather that pompeyyong photographer extraordinaire is opening a bar in Thailand some time next year. Well he will have plenty of his excellent photos to decorate the walls but we will miss both of you lads at our regular sessions in the Milton Arms.
