Peter Storrie has made the following announcement on the Pompey Site following yet more speculation surrounding Sol Campbell and his future with Pompey, with claims today made that Newcastle are on the brink of signing him: ‘Sol is happy at Portsmouth and has another year left on his contract.

‘He is concentrating on leading the team out at Wembley in the FA Cup final on Saturday week and looking forward to the challenge of the UEFA Cup next season if we beat Cardiff.

‘Newspaper reports which emanated from Portugal are totally inaccurate and without any substance.

‘No-one at the club has at any time suggested that this will be Sol’s last season with us and it is the policy of the club not to speculate on any transfer activity’.

The club will say such things, they have to to protect their investment but to be honest I still feel that Campbell probably will leave this summer, and if he does he will do so with my best wishes – lifting the FA cup would be a great way for it to end.

If he stays all the better, either way I think it is time for the speculation to end as Campbell seems to find it difficult to get his head right at the best of times these days, constant speculation is not going to do him or us any good is it…
